Lawsuit Filed Against Michigan State Police Official Alleging Malicious Prosecution and Abuse of Power

Lansing, Michigan – 2/14/25 – O’Keefe Law, PLLC, representing Plaintiffs Cody Lukas and Justin Simpson, has filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division (Case No. 2:25-cv-10432) against Defendant Aimee Brimacombe, a high-ranking Deputy Director (Lt. Colonel) of the Michigan State Police. The complaint alleges that Defendant Brimacombe engaged in a malicious abuse of power by coercing the local prosecutor into issuing criminal charges against the Plaintiffs—both serving as Michigan State Police troopers—following a disputed traffic stop involving suspect Jacob Long.

According to the complaint, Defendant Brimacombe, who at the time was employed as a Specialist/First Lieutenant in the Risk Management division, improperly inserted herself into the criminal investigation. Rather than allowing MSP’s internal investigative process to operate independently, she leveraged her authority and personal connections—reportedly including communications with Tiffany Homola (the sister of the suspect)—to pressure the prosecutor to file criminal charges against her own Troopers despite a clear lack of probable cause.

As a result of her actions, Plaintiffs were subjected to unwarranted criminal charges, suspension from duty, and a damaging public smear campaign that has caused significant mental anguish, humiliation, and career disruption. Although the charges were eventually dismissed, the Plaintiffs continue to suffer from the long-term consequences of this malicious prosecution and the erosion of their Fourth Amendment rights.

“Simply put, our clients have been punished for doing their jobs,” said Attorney Patrick William O’Keefe. “Defendant Brimacombe’s abuse of power has not only harmed these dedicated officers but also threatens the integrity of our law enforcement system. We are committed to seeking justice and holding her accountable for her deliberate, wrongful actions.”

The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $75,000 and a trial by jury, underscoring the Plaintiffs’ demand for accountability for the abuse of power that has imperiled their careers and tarnished their reputations.
